Date Posted: 8/3/2006

Aug. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Six occupants of a BMW car were killed in the eastern German state of Brandenburg after they fled a police check for possible human trafficking and swerved off the road during the ensuing high-speed police chase.

Another two of the eight people in the car, which had license plates from the eastern city of Leipzig, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of Berlin, were severely injured, according to a statement posted on the Brandenburg police Web site.
A Czech and a Vietnamese citizen were among the six dead, police said. Three people died instantly and the other three died in hospital after their car careened off the road and into trees near the village of Dannenreich, according to the police. Two others are being treated at a hospital.
