VietACT International Internship Program in Taiwan
VietACT welcomes a limited number of interns to work on behalf of VietACT in Taiwan during the summer months (May-September). Students and professionals of various disciplines are encouraged to apply, particularly law, social work, psychology, public health, and general social science. Interns will be place work at the TaiwanACT/VBMWO office in Taiwan will participate in research, case studies, case work, writing projects, and advocacy. Potential interns are encouraged to find funding through their universities and/or private funding. VietACT will make arrangements for basic room and board. Interns will make their own arrangements for traveling. (A small stipend may be available depending on funding availability)
The VietACT intern will work for a minimum of 10 weeks. The first week will be an orientation in Orange County with VietACT members. The next 8 weeks will be spent in Taiwan with VBMWO. Duties in Taiwan will include, but are not limited to:
1. Collecting data and maintaining a Microsoft Access program. Compiling data and writing reports.
2. Analyzing data and identifying policy issues for advocacy projects.
3. Writing articles to post on the website.
4. Developing and compiling information for a quarterly newletter.
5. Preparing public information, putting together press releases, and answering public inquiries.
For individuals with qualified backgrounds, duties may also include:
1. Teaching various skills for future job opportunities
2. Designing the website and updating information
3. Developing an education package that empowers women and raises women rights’ issues in Vietnam and Taiwan.
The internship will conclude with a final week back in Orange County, where the intern will debrief VietACT board members, write up final reports, and put together a presentation about his or her experience. The intern will also oversee the development of a Needs Assessment for VietACT upon return, helping to develop a business plan for the development of the non-governmental organization.
VietACT requests that interns remain active in VietACT as a member for a period of at least one year following the internship. Active membership includes e-mail correspondence, participation in periodic conference calls, and an annual in-person conference.
Eligibility & Qualifications:
VietACT internships are open to undergraduate, graduate, recent graduates, and professionals. Students and professionals of various disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Interns must have solid research and writing skills as well as basic computer skills.
VietACT seeks interns with a commitment to advancing the organization’s anti-human trafficking goals.
Preference will be given to applicants with Vietnamese and/or Mandarin language skills. Interns must be able to work on site in Taiwan for 10 weeks.
